Alt Attribute & Search engine optimization

SEO Optimization images is becoming more and more important in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is really a critical step that is often overlooked. This can be a lost chance of better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise the use of alternative text for the images on your site:

Images:. Make use of the alt attribute to provide descriptive text. Additionally, we recommend using a human-readable caption and descriptive text round the image.

Why would they ask us to do that? The answer is easy, really; search engines like google have a similar problem as blind users. They can't begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse the use of this attribute, trying to stuff it with keywords, hoping to achieve a certain keyword density, which is not as relevant for rankings now since it was previously.

On the contrary, high keyword density can, on some search engines like google, trigger spam filters, which may create a penalty for your site's ranking. Even without this type of penalty, your site's rankings will not take advantage of this plan.
This method also puts persons who use screen readers in a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that really read aloud the contents of what is displayed on the screen. In browsing the web, the alt features of images are read aloud too.

Imagine hearing a paragraph of text that is followed by repetitions of numerous keywords. The page will be not even close to accessible, and, to put it bluntly, will be found quite annoying.
What is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute shouldn't be used as a description or perhaps a label to have an image, though many people utilize it for the reason that fashion. Though it may appear natural to assume that alternate text is really a label or perhaps a description, it is not!

What used within an image's alt attribute ought to be its text equivalent and convey the same information or serve exactly the same purpose that the image would.

The thing is to supply the same functional information that the visual user would see. The alt attribute text should function as a "stand in" in the event that the image itself is not available. Ask yourself this question: If you were to replace the image with the text, would most users receive the same basic information, and would it generate the same response?
Some examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If your search button is really a magnifier or binoculars its alt text ought to be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If the image is meant to convey the literal items in the look, a description is appropriate.

If it is meant to convey data, then that data is what is appropriate.

If it's designed to convey using a function, then the function itself is what should be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility as well as for valid XHTML.

For images that play merely a decorative role within the page, use an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or a CSS background image to ensure that reading browsers do not bother users by uttering things like "spacer image".

Keep in mind that it is the function of the image we are trying to convey. For instance; any button images should not range from the word "button" in the alt text. They should emphasize the action performed by the button.

Alt text should be determined by context. The same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text.

Attempt to flow alt text with the rest of the text because that is how it is going to be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone hearing your page should hardly be aware that a graphic image is there.
Please remember that utilizing an alt attribute for each image is needed to satisfy the minimum WAI requirements, that are used as the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and also the rest of Europe. Also, they are necessary to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in america.

It is useful to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are things that serve no purpose apart from to make a site visually appealing/attractive and (oftentimes) fulfill the marketing departments. There isn't any content value (though there might be value to a sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there is something there that will boost the usability from the site for someone utilizing a non-visual user agent. Make use of a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is actually the middle layer of graphics which may serve to set the atmosphere or set happens as it were. These graphics aren't direct content and could 't be considered essential, but they are important in they help frame what is going on.

Try to alt-ify the 2nd group as is sensible and it is relevant. There may be instances when doing so may be annoying or detrimental to other users. Then avoid it.

For example; Alt text that's just like adjacent text is unnecessary, as well as an irritant to screen reader users. I suggest alt="" or background CSS images in such cases. But sometimes, it's vital that you understand this content in there for all users.

Most times it depends on context. Exactly the same image in a different context may require drastically different alt text. Obviously, content ought to always be fully available. The way you go in this example is a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is where the image may be the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes can also be in order.
The main reason many authors can't understand why their alt text isn't working is they don't know why the images are there. You have to figured out exactly what function an image serves. Consider what it is concerning the image that's vital that you the page's intended audience.

Every graphic has a reason for standing on that page: since it either improves the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is advisable to what the page is trying to describe. Knowing what the look is for makes alt text simpler to write. And practice writing them definitely helps.
A method to look into the usefulness of alternative text is to imagine reading the page on the phone to someone. What would you say when encountering a particular image to make the page understandable to the listener?

Aside from the alt attribute you've got a couple more tools available for images.
First, in level of descriptiveness title is in between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and may add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered through the user agent. Remember they're invisible and never shown as a "tooltip" when focus is received through the keyboard. (So much for device independence). So make use of the title attribute just for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points to the URL of a full description of the image. When the information contained in an image is important towards the meaning of the page (i.e. some important content would be lost if the image was removed), a longer description compared to "alt" attribute can reasonably display ought to be used. It may provide for rich, expressive documentation of the visual image.

It should be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of the image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is a long description of the image...The goal is to use any length of description necessary to impart the facts of the graphic.

It would not be remiss to hope that the long description conjures an image - the look - in the mind's eye, an analogy that is true even for the totally blind."

Although the alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility as well as for valid (X)HTML, not all images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

Oftentimes, you're best just going with your gut instinct -- if it's not essential to incorporate it, and if you don't have a strong urge to get it done, don't add that longdesc.

However, if it's necessary for the whole page to work, then you've to include the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a lot on the function of the image and it is context on the page.

Exactly the same image may require alt text (or title or longdesc) in a single spot, but not in another. If the image provides simply no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images might be appropriate to use. But if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt will be required and maybe even a long description will be so as. In many cases this kind of thing is a judgement call.

Image Search Engine Optimization Tips

Listed here are key stages in optimizing images:

Select a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You should use hyphens in the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Stay away from underscores as a word separator, such as "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For example, when the image search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's going to assume the file is a photo, and if it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's going to assume that it is graphic;

Make sure that the written text at the image that's highly relevant to that image.
Again, don't lose an excellent chance to help your site together with your images searching engines. Use these steps to rank better on all the engines and drive more traffic for your site TODAY.

A 75-year-old woman was recently arrested by the Georgian police after she single-handedly cut off Internet connections in Georgia and neighbouring Armenia.

AFP reports that the pensioner was digging for scrap metal with the intention of stealing it when she stumbled upon a fibre-optic cable which runs through Georgia to Armenia, forcing thousands of Internet users in both countries to lose Internet connection for several hours. Georgian Railway Telecom, the company that owns the cable, said that the latest damage was serious, causing 90 percent of private and corporate Internet users in Armenia to lose access for nearly 12 hours while also hitting Georgian Internet service providers.

“I cannot understand how this lady managed to find and damage the cable. It has robust protection and such incidents are extremely rare,” Giorgi Ionatamishvili, Georgian Railway Telecom’s marketing head, told AFP.

Apparently, this wasn’t the first time it happened. In 2009, another scavenger damaged a fibre-optic cable while hunting for scrap metal in the impoverished ex-Soviet state, forcing many Georgians’ Internet connections to get interrupted.

The woman has been charged with damaging property and could face up to three years in prison if convicted.

As rumors of a later-than-usual iPhone launch for 2011 persist, a new report reveals that the notoriously secretive Apple is being even more careful than usual when dealing with overseas suppliers.

"Apple is keeping its iPhone 5 cards extra close to the vest on this launch to avoid a falloff in iPhone 4 demand ahead of a refresh, especially given the February launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 with Verizon," Analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities said in a note to investors on Friday. He believes that the iPhone 5 could still launch in June or July, as previous models have.

White noted that various rumors have pointed toward a launch later than June this year for the fifth-generation iPhone. One report from March alleged that Apple has not even begun ordering components for the anticipated "iPhone 5," and the device is slated to arrive in the company's 2012 fiscal year, which begins in late September.

And a third report alleged that Apple is working on a major revamp of iOS, its mobile operating system, for version 5.0. New features like cloud-based storage of music, photos and video are rumored to arrive in the update this fall, likely alongside new iPhone hardware.

But despite all of those reports, White isn't yet convinced that the iPhone 5 will be introduced later than its typical June or July timeframe.

"Although we do not have a smoking gun that definitively rules out a delayed autumn unveiling or one that supports a launch this summer, there is a pattern of activity in motion with the supply chain that makes us question a delayed launch," he said.

White also cited sources who indicated that iPad sales could reach up to 40 million units in calendar year 2011. And supply chain sources also indicated that disruption from the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan will actually end up benefitting Apple, as suppliers will "rush to support Apple at the expense of competitors."

The analyst already revealed earlier this week that Apple has been offering upfront cash payments to component suppliers in order to secure components in the wake of the disaster in Japan. Apple has apparently also been using a "three cover guarantee," referring to capacity, stock and price, to block out competitors and prevent them from building ample supply of devices.

class="dropcap">Bill Thomas used to be a climate change skeptic, not believing that humans could have influenced the dramatic atmospheric shift, but two weeks in the woods — and chats with scientists — changed his mind.

“I remember vividly that first day with Dr. Jess Parker; he showed us a chart of CO2 levels increasing about the time of the industrial revolution,” says Thomas, who works for HSBC bank and participated in a 2007 Climate Champions training program. There, a personal epiphany led to a job title change — the former relationship manager for HSBC Technical Services is now group head of HSBC Technology and Services Sustainability.

Teaching employees the science behind green corporate values and how to make their workplaces sustainable isn’t just for “green” show — done right, it’s good business strategy.

“There seems to be a huge growth of interest among companies to not just keep the environmental initiatives within a subset of employees, but to make it a pervasive part of the corporate culture,” says Krista Badiane, who manages the business and environment program at the National Environmental Education Foundation.  And unlike broad, mandated rules — such as carbon caps — companies that create their own initiatives take ownership and credit for sustainable changes, which may well go beyond what laws would have dictated.

By cultivating current workers’ energy-saving ideas and environmental passions, companies can save resources, energy and money as well as boost their eco-friendly reputation. The key is to help employees learn why sustainability matters — for instance, unless it’s slowed, climate change could alter global landscapes and increase natural disasters in our lifetimes. And if employees realize what’s at stake, they’ll find ways to save resources at work — as well as at home.

Worker to Citizen Scientist/> In a patch of woods in Edgewater, Md., bordering Smithsonian Environmental Research Center campus buildings, HSBC technology managers are intently straightening a measuring tape wrapped around a mature oak. Phil Clarke, from Portland, Ore., leans in and meticulously gets a reading of its diameter: 94.8 inches. During this weeklong Sustainability Leader training, he’s learning what scientists do and what shape the planet is in. He knows that the measurements taken today — even though what they reveal won’t be known for awhile — will help guide decisions that will keep our world sound for future generations.

His employer, HSBC bank — a global financial services company with 300,000 employees working in 8,000 offices and pre-tax profits topping $11 billion — decided to go carbon neutral in 2005. For the past three years, HSBC bank has partnered with EarthWatch Institute for an international study on climate change’s effects on tree growth, as well as a program that trains employees around the world in sustainability. When workers return to the office after their forest immersion, they find ways to integrate newly learned sustainability lessons in their spheres of influence.

Clarke and the other HSBC technology services managers from around North America — key decision-makers hand picked for the training — earn the title of Sustainability Leader. A larger two-week program trains HSBC employees from all levels — from cashier to marketing staffer — to become Climate Champions.

Such citizen science training helps corporate employees understand the mechanics of science — that systems are complex, and that there are no easy answers. “You learn what a critical state the world is actually in,” says Annette Fasolino of HSBC’s payment operations division in Buffalo, N.Y.

Having that up-close experience with scientists and ecosystems helps employees better grasp how climate change is impacting, and may impact, the world. “Many of these people go back and question their decisions, and make sure they’re making the most sustainable decisions,” says Thomas.

Cultivating the Grassroots/> Though the partnership between HSBC and EarthWatch is unique, other companies are also looking to their staff for sustainable solutions. “There’s no one best program for a company to educate their employees,” Badiane says.

Some companies or groups of motivated employees organize green teams, which promote eco-friendly changes and teach colleagues sustainable alternatives. Initiatives range from banning disposable utensils in the lunchroom to redesigning an operating system to save raw materials. “Ideally, you’re getting some new ideas out of your employees,” says Deborah Fleischer, president of Green Impact, a sustainability consulting service.

Businesses also use social media sites such as Yammer — a private social network for companies — or online training to generate sustainable ideas.

Other companies dangle a carrot — awards and incentives — to get workers to make sustainable choices. Yogurt maker Stonyfield tied facility energy savings (based on energy use per ton of product) to employee bonuses. In this way, the company reduced energy use by more than 22 percent, according to a NEEF report.

To engage workers of all levels, eBay employed competition: a Big Green Idea Contest. To enter, employees identified ways the company could meet greenhouse gas reduction goals; then, employees voted on the top ideas. One idea, the eBay Box — simple, eco-friendly packaging that’s meant to be reused for eBay shipments — has become a useful tool that saves money and resources.

Unfortunately, some companies’ efforts are no more than greenwashing stunts to appear eco-friendly and keep up with their competition. Producing disposable trinkets with “green” logos or launching environmental-focused public relations initiatives while pushing pollution limits does not jive with true sustainability. The companies mentioned here, however, offer genuine solutions that leave a lighter footprint.

Two Kinds of Green/> Such engagement can yield significant savings: One North American HSBC Climate Champion noticed that co-workers weren’t shutting down their PCs every night, wasting energy. Now, NightWatchman software automatically shuts down more than 6 million computers left on. During fiscal year 2010 in North America, the software coupled with an awareness program saved 4 million kilowatts per year of electricity and about 900 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which shaved $332,000 on energy bills.

At defense contractor Lockheed Martin, a Camden, Ark., building uses a software system to control lighting and air conditioning, leading to more than $200,000 in reduced costs and savings of 2,332 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, according to the NEEF report. And at drugmaker Genetech,  green teams slashed the use of bottled water, saving the company $200,000 a year by using filtered water machines paired with reusable bottles, according to a white paper by Fleischer, “Green Teams: Engaging Employees in Sustainability.”

But benefits to a company can’t always be calculated in dollars.

“By creating an engaged employee base, we’re really putting it into hearts and minds of employees, and that’s going to be much more powerful and long-term than saying ‘you must turn off your PC,’” says Sharon Walck, senior vice president of sustainability at HSBC North America.

Investing in and teaching sustainable values to workers also boosts retention, according to NEEF, which is extremely important to large corporations. The foundation says losing and replacing a good employee can cost a company between 70 percent and 200 percent of that employee’s annual salary.

And, Badiane says, “employees who are motivated want to work for a company that has the same values.”

Roofing Companies Vancouver - 5 Questions to Really think

Roofing Vancouver - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion like an expert opinion. Most contractors provides you with a free estimate. Get a list of a few trusted contractors and phone them well ahead of time of when you want to get your homes roof fixed so you can compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this together with your spouse or partner. (The children could care less...at least the children.) The fact is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be viewed with bed hair. If you've got a good quality roof and you just need to repair it, it's worthwhile to pay for the price of the initial shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (hopefully!) and so make a choice that suits you and your family well or it'll stand out just like a sore thumb everyday you go home.

3. Must i replace the roof in order to sell the house for additional?

Think about this very carefully prior to making a decision. Depending on the roofing material you select, a brand new roof lasts anywhere from twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you need to check the year of the roof that's currently too deep first. Are you at year 18 of the 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of a 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the standard is what makes the rooftop last longer, but if you're not planning to remain in your present home for the rest of your life, the larger expense may not be worth neglect the. Although a new roof can enhance the worth of your selling price, the rise might not be enough to cover your investment and that's bound to hurt your wallet.

4. Is it a good idea that i can repair the roof myself?

Sure it is. Before you need to do, consult an expert first. You can perform it yourself, but you shouldn't be considered a complete ‘lone ranger.' With respect to the extent of the repair, you may or might not change your mind. In either case, it helps to get a professional eye about the problem first and maybe even a free quote to help you do the math later and find out if it's truly worth your time and effort, sweat, and cash to become mister or miss fix-it.

5. When is a good time to find the roof replaced?

Weather may cause delays from days to weeks. Most people plan ahead to have their roof replaced in the summer when they know someone will be home during the day for any solid two weeks. Once you've this period in mind, make a call to a trusted contractor months in advance to obtain a quote. Some companies get booked up fast and chances are, they're probably the most reputable. The exteriors associated with a house, primarily the rooftop and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying weather conditions, every single day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters might be necessary. In some instances you might want to replace them completely. Whatever issues there might be, an experienced Tacoma Roofing company can examine them in detail and suggest the remedy.

If your gutters often clog too often, or there are leaks across the walls of your house, it might mean that there is debris piled-up on the roof. Loose branches, piles of leaves, and other light objects which are swept onto your roof throughout a storm can all contribute towards damaging your roof, which damages could be lasting. A knowledgeable Tacoma Roofing company will tell you that birds, mice, along with other types of rodents often build nest within the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they're great at collecting moisture, which can lead to loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your house. Additionally, it may also cause vermin infestation. Following a storm, your Tacoma Roofing company will suggest that you inspect your roof for just about any signs of debris or damage.

What is Distinction between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are getting a roofing company to re roof your house or building then you can be wondering what the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To start with, the one huge difference is that often times an industrial roofing company may have signed a contract with and be obligated to a roofing union in able to focus on union commercial jobs.

If this sounds like the situation then their labor costs will prohibit them from focusing on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if your commercial roofing company has not signed a contract with a union they may be outfitted simply for commercial jobs and that means that their workers and equipment may not be consistent with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors generally often run smaller companies and hence, tend to be more in a position to bid competitively on residential jobs, which tend to be small compared to comercial jobs. Actually, often times residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, where the contractor that you talk to may be the one which actually does the work on the building.

Roof service History by roofershane

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more epensive along with a larger bond is required for a commercial roofing work which will make it not economical for any commercial roofing contractor to do residential roofing jobs.

Still one more factor is the fact that commercial jobs can run on a tighter time period for any number of reasons, requiring an industrial contractor to employ a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs not as profitable for them.

Difference Between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Are you aware that the roof of a house or building has a huge impact on the whole structure itself? Damage caused to roofs because of natural or another disasters causes a considerable loss of property everywhere. The kind of materials used to construct the rooftop that ought to be sturdy and long-lasting, the manner where the roof continues to be installed as well as its timely maintenance are extremely crucial. There are two kinds of roofs that are utilized on all of the buildings that we see around us: commercial and residential. Even though it may seem that commercial roofing is performed just for businesses or offices and residential roofing is performed for apartments and houses, the truth is the differences are much more complex than that.

Residential roofing is usually completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing typically takes a whole team to complete the task. This is because an industrial roof tends to be larger in terms of sq ft than a residential roof.
Commercial roofs need to be made carefully keeping the character and purpose of the building in your mind. For example, if there is a cafe or restaurant within the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes will be required. Residential roofs usually do not have such components other than a chimney or two at the most.
Commercial roofs is commonly flat in design to accommodate further changes at a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks along with other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is a lot more expensive than residential roofing due to the special tools, materials and safety equipment that are needed onsite. Usually the patching or maintenance jobs are done in segments unlike for any residential roof where the repair or replacement work can be completed in a short while. This really is another reason why the gear used for residential roofs is often smaller and less expensive as well.
Commercial roof installations take a longer time to complete compared to residential roof installations and are usually constructed in large sections. During this phase however, it is important to ensure that there aren't any leakages, cracks or any other visible wear and tear signs as it can cause considerable harm to the entire building.
It is important to install the right roof for a building based on its purpose. Make sure that you hire a construction company that uses first class materials and has the right equipment for the job or your investment may turn to be considered a huge loss later.

When you begin your search for a roofing contractor you don't only need to answer those questions but you also want to find someone that will perform a high quality job with no great deal of time delays. Going about finding someone can seem like an obstacle in itself but there are some ways to result in the search easier.

Ask friends and family for referrals and try to find at least three contractors to give you written bids on your job. Prior to going any more you have to ensure that the contractors you are thinking about are fully licensed and bonded. A simple search with the state contractor's board will verify in case your roofer is licensed and if you will find any past judgments or claims against their license.

Once you select 3 or 4 roofers to put bids, you should get ready for the bids to be widely varied. Roofers will have brand preferences that will vary and may factor in more or less compared to next guy for any labor estimate. The greater detailed an itemized bid may be the more helpful it will likely be to focus on where the cost are going to be incurred. Don't, however, pick a roofer based solely on the bid price. Any low ball bids may be tempting to consider, but if they are low because of poor quality workman ship it might not be worthwhile ultimately.

As the saying goes, you generally get what you pay for, if you are able to afford a mid-priced bid it's always a good idea to go up within your budget instead of down. Additionally you ought to decide your roofer depending on how professional these were and how comfortable you anticipate you will be dealing with them.

Finally your cost will be different based on what type of roofing material you select along with the cost to haul your old roof to the landfill. Should you be looking for places to chop corners in your roof, rather than cutting labor cost you may want to ask about metallic roof option. Metal roofs can be cost effective and efficient making them overall money savers for that long term, as well as on commercial buildings they may be really low maintenance. Plus since they can be placed on top of an existing roof, you don't have to have the old one removed and hauled away, which can make a big effect on your cost.

The payment schemes. Do you know the terms of payment to do the job? What's the down payment and amount due upon completion? While it is certainly reasonable that a substantial payment be produced before a contractor begins work on a project, it is strongly advised that full payment is not made until after the entire job is completed.
Written contract. All terms of the roofing replacement should be put in a written contract. No part of the contracting job should rely on verbal assurances.

Length of Time running a business How long has got the company you're interviewing been in business? A brief amount of time in business may reflect instability. When the contractor has been around business under 3 years, verify just how long they have actually been in the market. A brand new contractor may have many years experience working on roofs before they form their very own business. Seek a business that's been around for 3 or more years, or in which the contractor has had a lot more years performing roofing replacements. This again should not be the only real factor, all of us have to begin sometime. Balance this with referrals and the other points raised in this article.
Appropriate Permits. A Seattle roofer ought to know what permits are needed for fixing your roof. They should be aware of how to obtain these permits on your behalf. Ask the contractor whether or not they will have the permits essential to repair the rooftop.

A good contractor will provide certificates of insurance for liability and worker's compensation before they start repairing your roof.
Subcontractors. Verify if the contractor will be using subcontractors. If that's the case, it is strongly advised that everything contained within this article for verifying whether the contractor is credible also needs to be relevant to subcontractors. You should receive the names and license numbers of all subcontractors. You need to verify whether each subcontractor can also be insured so you are not held liable for their accidents.
Pending Legal Actions. You should verify whether you will find any legal actions against the contractor. This is not only necessary for verifying whether the roofing company is legitimate (credible roofing companies should not need to defend themselves in court), it is also important just because a lost lawsuit might lead to the contractor to go bankrupt. For those who have designed a substantial deposit for services immediately prior to the company goes bankrupt, you can lose thousands of dollars and not have your roofing completed.
Material Disposal. Who is accountable for disposing of the waste generated from the roof being replaced? Will your contractor handle all aspects of this? Is there an additional cost for getting rid of this waste?
NRCA Membership. Membership in local or national roofing associations, such as the NRCA, shows resolve for staying up to date with the most effective means of roof replacement and maintenance. Look for a roofer having a high standard of education regarding their trade.
Replacing your roof is a significant investment. Celebrate good sense to inquire about serious questions before working with a roofer. Here are a few more tips that you ought to consider when choosing the best roofing contractor for the upcoming roofing replacement.

At one time when search engine optimization was actually not necessary.

Whilst late being a decade ago, if you made a Website anywhere, Google indexed it and you gained visibility in its serp's. Your page might have been with a free "estates" where anybody could add a page and Google didn't mind. It may likewise have been a pure affiliate page without original content and Google still indexed it.

Situations are unrecognizably different now.

Affiliate pages with "cookie-cutter" content duplicated everywhere might never reach the Google index; the identical fate is probable for all those pages you toss in on the free-for-all website. And even "proper" websites with your own domain name didn't achieve visibility on the list of proliferating sites in millions.

These wouldn't have mattered, aside from one thing. It absolutely was Google that provided the bread and butter for that an incredible number of smaller businesses which could not afford expensive marketing campaigns. If your site was among the top few sites the appeared before a searcher's eyes when that person looked for your product or service, you have hundreds and even 1000s of visitors, a lot of whom even bought your product or service.

Search engine optimization (SEO) entered the scene. Internet search engine specialists "reverse-engineered" to identify the factors that Google consider for showing websites near the top of its search engine results pages. These factors were then consciously incorporated into your internet pages in the hope that Google can have your internet site the primary ten results it showed on the first page.

As more and more of the competitors adopted seo practices, things became difficult again. Your position begun to slip in case your competitors did the SEO better. SEO battles became serious fights with every dirty trick working.

There have been "black hat" SEO practitioners who showed one page to look engines and another to human visitors. As engines like google weren't bothered with readability, you might fill the "search engine" page with pure gibberish, but gibberish developed in a way that the engine dutifully indexed high.

A war of wits followed between unscrupulous SEO practitioners and search engines. Google changed its ranking algorithms regularly to operate around practices that allowed low value content to appear towards the top of its search results. In the end, Google's success been dependent on providing value to searchers, not merchants. And SEO practitioners came up with new tricks.

We will look at seo inside a number of articles, starting off having an look and feel at on-line or Internet marketing.

'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
